321 East 54th Street: Review and Ratings

between Second Avenue & First Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 321 East 54th Street by Carter Horsley

This pleasant, 11-story, red-brick, mid-block building was erected in 1929. It was converted to a cooperative in 1981 and has 101 apartments.

The building has a canopied entrance with a six-step-down vestibule and a two-story "rope" pillar surround and tall arched windows in the center of the second and top floors.

There are attractive Hellenic-style bas-reliefs on the second story of the façade.

It has a doorman, a roof deck, sidewalk landscaping and protruding air-conditioners, but no balconies, and no garage.

It is not far from two small, nice parks on Sutton Place and there are numerous restaurants and stores in the vicinity.

There is excellent cross-town bus service on 57th Street, but subways are several blocks away.
